“Gay Manifesto” promoted by aggressive anti-gay activist, Rev. Peter Garth

This is Rev. Garth, the man who said he would die so that gay men can’t have the right to privacy, trying to understand what the buggery laws are and what he calls “The Gay Agenda” in the video below.

Rev. Peter Garth changed the name of the satirical piece from its original name of “Gay Revolutionary” to “Gay Manifesto” in order to suit his anti-gay propagandist agenda.

Our critique:

1)

His promotion of this “Gay manifesto” is baseless as neither can he prove that this is some central document to the LGBT movement but he expects the LGBT movement to apologise for or withdraw what Michael Swift said. If the LGBT movement did that it would surely seem as if we had anything to do with this document Michael Swift(an ordinary man) wrote in the first place. Michael Swift wrote the article and therefore Michael Swift should therefore retract his satirical piece if he so chooses. Rev. Garth then went on ,after the host brought up the same thing I said, to talk about the March on Washington as if that had anything to do with the article written by Michael Swift and said that there is “an agenda”. I would love to know what part of his article is a part of any agenda. Would it be appropriate for us to ask all dancehall artistes to retract “boom bye bye” or the artiste who sang this song?

Why are these American anti-gay Christians acting so desperate in their efforts to demonise the gay community around the world?

The fundamentalist Christians in the United States are losing the culture war on gays and so they have desperately decided to dump their propaganda machinery on Jamaica and the rest of the third world.
.
Just has how Rev. Garth claims history tells him what will happen if the buggery law is reformed/repealed, history tells the LGBT community why their “hidden gay conspiracy theory” won’t convince anyone for long:
– In 2003 after the Lawrence v Texas Supreme court decision invalidated all “sodomy” laws, according to a Gallup poll 6 in 10 Americans supported the decision http://www.gallup.com/poll/8722/six-americans-agree-gay-sex-should-legal.aspx
.
– 53% of Americans now support same-sex marriage in 2012 with only 36% opposing (a new all time low). Support has never stopped increasing. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/05/strong-support-for-gay-marriage-now-exceeds-strong-opposition/
.
– 68% of Americans support gays being open in the military according to polls done in 2010
.
They are even losing the future too:
73% of 18-34 year olds believe gay marriage should be legal according to a CNN/ORC poll.
.
Gay rights is no longer a “white man thing”. The racial minorities are not being convinced with their conspiracy theories:
Majority of blacks now support same-sex marriage after President Obama’s announcement
.
-59% of Latinos according to a recent poll say that “homosexuality should be accepted by society”
.
-The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People supports same-sex marriage
.
-The wife of Martin Luther King, Coretta Scott King supported same-sex marriage
.
They are even losing among the Christians:
Most Catholics who attend mass weekly support same-sex marriage or civil unions
.
-This one shocked me. 44% of young EVANGELICALS 18-29 years support same-sex marriage in 2011.

This accusation about the 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation being an event to promote paedophilia and “lowering of age of consent laws” is a rude lie twisted to suit the notion that the LGBT movement somehow has a hidden agenda to come after children.
The Platform of the 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation can be found here (http://apocryphaltext.tripod.com/HomosexualAgenda.htm) It
As you can see the first demand was:
A) We demand passage of a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender civil rights bill and an end to discrimination by state and federal governments including the military; repeal of all sodomy laws and other laws that criminalize private sexual expression between consenting adults.

1. Passage of “The Civil Rights Amendment Act of 1991” (HR 1430 & S574).

2. Repeal of Department of Defense directive 1332.14

3. Repeal of laws prohibiting sodomy between consenting adults.

4. Repeal of laws prohibiting cross-gender expression (dress codes) between consenting adults.

5. Repeal of laws prohibiting non-coercive sexual behavior between consenting adults.

6. Amendment of the Code of Federal Regulations to recognize same-sex relationships.

7. Passage of the Equal Rights Amendment.

8. Implementation of, funding for and enforcement of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1991.

9. Passage and implementation of graduated age-of-consent laws.

In many jurisdictions where homosexual sex was legal the age of consent for homosexuals was higher than that for heterosexuals. If the agenda of the March on Washington was to allow sex with minors then wouldnt that have contradicted numbers 3? Number 9 is the one anti-gay activists love to feed on because it talks about age of consent and when they hear that they jump and say “See! they are trying to go after the children!!”. The graduated age-of-consent law was to allow  equality in age-of-consent laws between homosexuals and heterosexuals  by lowering the age of consent for homosexuals. J-FLAG has repeatedly condemned child sexual abuse in the media unlike the church who is busy making sure gay people can’t have sex. http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/news/JFLAG–JFJ-condemn-sexual-abuse-of-children

On his fourth point Rev. Garth did the poorest. First he goes on to say that he believes the buggery law should not be repealed because he “believes in family”. Then he contradicts himself when the host asks him about it by saying he doesnt think homosexuals threaten the heterosexual family(seems as though you anti-gay lobbyists don’t agree with each other because Shirley Richards sure thinks it does). He then goes on to make a completely ridiculous point that homosexuality or buggery is not a right but a choice. It appears as though he thinks choices should not be rights, kind of the like the choice to freely practice one’s religion. Should that not be a right and isn’t it a choice? Poor understanding of human rights.
Then he brings up homosexuality in the schools before the host stopped him as if that has anything to do with the buggery law.
It was the worst point of the entire show when he goes on to say that it is a myth that the buggery law doesn’t extend into your bedroom. Rev. Garth either has a poor understanding of law or he probably has never read the buggery law itself. He also seems to be mixing up his personal religious doctrine with legislation. There is nothing in the buggery law which stops a policeman from entering your bedroom and charging you for buggery. This has happened already. Dont take my word for it. Read it here:http://jamaica-star.com/thestar/20050722/news/news3.html

He then demonstrates his poor understanding of the law when he tells the host that she has a right to commit suicide. No one has the right to commit suicide in Jamaica. Attempting to commit suicide is illegal and  can result in prison time according to the law.
The next point he made completely missed the point the host made all together. She said that while she disagrees with smoking, she would never lobby parliament to have smokers thrown into prison if they smoke in their bedrooms. Rev. Garth brings up putting pictures on cigarette boxes and banning smoking in public. Whether or not these things are done the fact still remains that smoking is legal in the privacy in your home while consensual buggery is not so there is no comparison. He completely missed the point and failed to answer her question adequately.
.
4)
After that, Rev. Garth demonstrates his poor understanding of the buggery law again. The buggery law does not stop the teaching of same-sex marriages in school because same-sex marriage and buggery are two different things. Since lesbian sex has always  been legal why hasn’t the door been open to teach about lesbian marriages in schools since history has showed him so much?
The point he made about the Lancet shows that Rev. Garth has no knowledge for himself but regurgitates what others tell him and doesnt look at the evidence for himself. He fails to mention that the HIV prevalence rate in Jamaica for MSMs is the second highest in the world, higher than every other country without a buggery law, and whether or not the anti-gay lobby wants to bury this information to not make their buggery law look bad it is a fact known all over the world and also by the Ministry of Health.  If you read the Lancet study it does not say the HIV prevalence rate increased for MSMs. It said that the MSM incidence rate was high but STABLE and the MSM community as a percentage of those with HIV increased because the percentage for heterosexuals decreased. This doesnt say that the number of MSMs with HIV has increased. Read the full study here: http://tinyurl.com/7cfz69v
The fact still remains whether or not they like it that Jamaica is in a much worse position that France when it comes to HIV for MSMs so the argument that buggery law is needed to control HIV rate is nothing but unproven rhetorical nonsense that qualified epidemiologists are not buying.
