SHIRLEY RICHARDS: TACITLY SUPPORTING “KILL THE GAYS BILL” IN UGANDA?

Popular anti-gay activist Shirley Richards decides to appear in a documentary made by a coalition called “Stand for Families Worldwide” which claims it exists to “expose the cultural imperialism pushed by the United Nations and by Western countries—especially the United States—and stop them from pushing a destructive sexual rights agenda on families and children worldwide“.

On their website they claim that criminalising homosexuality is a tool to help to control the spread of HIV/AIDS.

REVIEW OF THE LIES OF WAYNE WEST AND SHIRLEY RICHARDS ON “RELIGIOUS HARDTALK”

On Tuesday September 18, 2012, Television Jamaica(TVJ) aired the programme “Religious Hardtalk” hosted by Ian Boyne where he brought on popular anti-gay activists Shirley Richards, attorney and former head of the Lawyer’s Christian Fellowship, and Dr. Wayne West who is a senior lecturer at the University of the West Indies, Mona(UWI) and a consultant radiologist.

Despite the fact that the previous week’s discussion was limited mainly to the topic of atheism and secularism, Ian Boyne decided to allow these two activists to have their time to speak about homosexuality and abortion even though it is a programme created for religious discussion. Surely, atheism and secularism is not necessarily an opposing argument to the pro-life and anti-gay arguments about homosexuality so the LGBT community needs to have a rebuttal to Tuesday’s programme and do so fast.

A new study on HIV in the African diaspora has been released in The Lancet on July 28th, 2012. The Lancet is the second highest ranking medical journal in the world.

Some anti-gay activists use  the following study publiched in the Lancet entitled “Population-based HIV-1 incidence in France, 2003–08: a modelling analysis”  to try and disprove what LGBT rights activists have said about HIV and the criminalisation of buggery/ homosexual activity:

Homophobic men & prostate cancer

By Eulalee Thompson

Prostate cancer is the leading type of cancer among Jamaican men but getting men to do regular screening tests is like hitting one’s head against a brick wall. Many men feel that just by doing the digital rectal examination, they bring into question their own sexuality.

HIV inherently associated with homosexuality or is it a syndemic?

Some anti-gay activists make the claim that the following study proves that giving gays rights do nothing to lower the risk of HIV within the MSM community:

Sexual health, HIV, and sexually transmitted infections among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men in the United States.
